Wifi Calling options after Sure Signal shuts down

Those of you outside mobile coverage may be disappointed that Vodafone are turning off Sure Signal this week. Fortunately there is a replacement service, Wifi Calling. However you may need to buy a new phone.

With Wifi Calling it’s possible to make and receive calls or text messages (SMS) in any location covered by Wifi, even when you don’t have a mobile signal.

Currently there are two operators that give their customers Wifi calling (Vodafone and 2Degrees). You will need a compatible phone:
Vodafone supported phones
2Degrees supported phones

Most of the newer top tier phones will do Wifi Calling. However there may still be an issue if you move the phone to a different provider.

The budget end of the market has only a few phones that will do Wifi calling. This is what I found available directly from the providers:

2 Degrees

Vodafone

Many of the older Samsung Galaxy phones support Wifi calling, so obtaining a used one might be an option. Using the phone on its original network will give you the best possibility of compatibility.
